Our History

After escaping from the formerly communist Czechoslovakia in 1967, Anna and Adolf Jerabek immigrated to the United States in hopes of finding freedom and the American Dream. They arrived in New York City and after just a few years of hard work opened their first restaurant called The Monastery Restaurant. The restaurant was situated on New York's West side just a stone's throw from Central Park on 75th Street and Columbus Avenue. In the early 80's they sold their restaurant and headed south to Virginia. Shortly after arriving in Virginia they continued their legacy by opening The Monastery Restaurant on Granby Mall, which is presently known as Granby Street. They have been in business at this location for almost 30 years and pride themselves in having one of the oldest restaurants in Downtown Norfolk.
